Training
Denton County ARES conducts monthly training nets on the 146.92 repeater. These are normally scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of each month at 19:30.
Denton County ARES members are also invited to participate in the various public service events that are conducted throughout the year, such as, MADD bike ride, Turkey Roll bike ride, and Mall Watch.
In addition to the training nets and service events, every ARES member should consider completing the following courses.
Basic training
ARRL - Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course, Level I
FEMA - IS-100 Introduction to ICS
FEMA - IS-700 National Incident Management System(NIMS), An Introduction
Follow-on training
ARRL - Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course, Level II
FEMA - IS-200 ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
Advanced training
ARRL - Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course, Level III
FEMA - IS-300 - Intermediate ICS For Expanding Incidents (Classroom only at this time)
FEMA - IS-800.B National Response Framework, An Introduction
These courses are especially important when the Denton County ARES is called upon by the various supported organizations in our area in the event of a drill, disaster simulation or actual disaster.
SKYWARN
Storm spotter classes are conducted by the National Weather Service and are recommended for certification as a Storm Spotter prior to participation in SKYWARN events.
